HRT & Travel Insurance
Please note: This article is for general information only. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for guidance from a qualified clinician.

If you’re travelling abroad and use Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), it’s worth checking whether your travel insurer asks about it. Many people assume HRT doesn’t need to be declared because it’s a common treatment, but every insurer has different rules.

Declaring your HRT helps ensure that your policy accurately reflects your health information. While HRT itself isn’t usually considered a reason to avoid travelling, failing to disclose requested medical information could affect a claim if you need medical treatment overseas.

It’s also important to remember that insurers may ask about the medical condition for which you’re taking HRT, such as menopause or premature ovarian insufficiency, rather than simply asking whether you take HRT. Always answer the questions honestly and carefully.

Before you travel:

* Check your insurer’s medical declaration requirements.
* Declare your HRT if requested.
* Carry enough medication for your trip, plus a little extra in case of delays.
* Keep your medication in its original packaging and pack it in your hand luggage where appropriate.
* Take a copy of your prescription or a letter from your healthcare professional, especially if you’re travelling outside Europe.

Travel should be about making memories—not worrying about paperwork. Spending a few minutes checking your insurance before you go could save you a great deal of stress if you ever need medical assistance abroad.
